Aluminum Heat Sink Die Casting Technology

Aluminum die casting technology


In addition to the aluminum extrusion technology, another process commonly used to manufacture the heat sink is aluminum die-casting. After the aluminum ingot is melted into a liquid state, it is filled into a metal mold and directly die-cast by a die-casting machine to form a heat sink. The indentation method can be used to form the fins into a plurality of three-dimensional shapes, the heat sink can be made into a complex shape according to requirements, and the heat sink with the guiding effect can be made with the fan and the airflow direction, and the thin and dense fins can be made. To increase the heat dissipation area, it is widely used due to its simple process. The commonly used die-casting aluminum alloy is ADC12. Due to its good die-casting properties, it is suitable for thin castings. However, due to its poor thermal conductivity (about 96 W/mK), AA1070 aluminum is used as a die-casting material in China. The thermal conductivity is up to 200 W/mK, which has a good heat dissipation effect.


However, the AA1070 Customized Aluminum Electronic Heat Sink has some inherent shortcomings that it cannot overcome:


(1) Excessive surface flow and excessive oxidized slag during die casting will reduce the heat transfer effect.


(2) When the cooling is performed, the internal micro-pore holes are high and the substantial thermal conductivity is lowered (K<200 W/m.K).


(3) The mold is susceptible to erosion, resulting in a short life.


(4) Poor moldability, not suitable for thin castings.


(5) The material is soft and easy to change.
